Hotel Galomar
Innovative, eco-friendly, has a holistic SPA for guests to relax near the ocean
Galomar’s privileged location on top of a hill in Caniço de Baixo allows for close contact with nature and listening to the sea peacefully. It has 77 rooms decorated using sustainable materials and joyful, fresh colours that are in symbiosis with the outdoor atmosphere. Commodity, design combined with wellness and a sense of space that extends to private balconies whether facing the sea or the garden. Rooms have spacious showers, robes and yoga mats. They also have an interactive panel that shows daily energy and water consumption. The saltwater pool has a waterfall that moves towards the ASHOKA SPA. Restaurante Atlantis offers a full buffet breakfast that serves hot and cold dishes, jams, cereals, cakes, detox juices, teas, coffees and a great variety of breads and cheeses, cold meats and eggs (cooked to taste) in the show-cooking area. Restaurant menu offers many options: vegetarian, fish or meat, salad buffet and miscellaneous desserts. In Bar Capoeira Lounge there are ice-creams made from Madeira’s fruits, varied cocktails and sunset sessions with live music.
Enotel Quinta do Sol
Iconic hotel that has a beautiful indoor/outdoor pool and is 15 min on foot from Funchal’s centre
The work of the famous Portuguese architect, Raul Chorão Ramalho, Enotel Quinta do Sol is a reference in Funchal. It was recently renovated and got to keep its emblematic façade with Madeira’s traditional awnings. Decoration is cosy. The hotel has lots of natural light and small corners with traditional, shiny furniture that was stylishly restored. It is near the beautiful Quinta Magnólia, just 15 min on foot from Funchal’s centre.
The hotel has 147 spacious, comfortable rooms with view over the sea or over the dense, leafy trees of Quinta Magnólia. The robes in every room invite guests to relax by the outdoor pool or indoor pool with embedded Jacuzzi that simulates a calming thermal bath. In addition to the gym, which has cardio fitness and weight-lifting equipment, guests can also enjoy the SPA, Sauna, Turkish Bath, relaxing massages, reflexology, reiki, pressotherapy, lymphatic drainage, among others. Hotel Allegro Madeira

Hotel Allegro has a Nordic-style decoration in pastel tones. Its suspended armchairs, flavoured waters and decorative quotations convey an explicit message – “Enjoy Life.” This 4-star hotel, part of the Barceló Hotel Group, is sought both by those who go to Madeira to relax and to work. Its location in Estrada Monumental do Funchal allows for access on foot to many restaurants, stores, beaches, shopping centre or the heart of the city.
Hotel Allegro Madeira has 124 rooms that have private balconies decorated with blue and white tiles harmonizing with sea or city view. It has a cosy atmosphere and includes commodities, such as water, tea, coffee, a pillow menu and robes. The hotel has an outdoor pool, sauna, Turkish bath, massage rooms and a small gym that is open on pool side. In the terrace, guests can enjoy a (stunning) 360º view over the ocean and Funchal. This is also where events and music concerts take place.
Breakfast serves all types of eggs, cold meats, cheeses, yoghurt, breads, cakes and fresh fruit. There is a show-cooking area and coffee machines, and they even serve sparkling wine. Gardens
Boutique hotel, luxury SPA, at a 2 km distance from Funchal’s centre
The recently renovated Savoy Gardens is divided in two areas: a classic style hotel with outdoor pool and a new space that comprises Restaurante Culinarium, the gym, Spa (with indoor pool) and 9 rooms decorated in a modern, luxurious way. This hotel has multiple entertainment areas, a gaming area (putting green, darts or shuffleboard), library, bar and even a hairdresser!
Moreover, it has 133 spacious rooms with all the commodities. It has free Internet, cable TV and air conditioning. The terrace bar has the most stunning panoramic views over Funchal’s bay. It is a very popular place to enjoy a drink at sunset, the so-called “wine before you dine.” There is a solarium with sunbeds and showers near the Jacuzzi.
Breakfast is served until 11 a.m.! Guests can enjoy waffles, crepes, 10 bread varieties, show-cooking area, regional produce, fruits, cakes and broas de mel (traditional sugar cane cakes). At the Savoy Gardens, there are 3 things that stand out: the works of art in exhibition; the care for the flowers (that are duly identified); and the daily entertainment programme handed to guests at breakfast. Porto Santa Maria
Urban resort, view over the marina, in the heart of the city
This hotel is part of the PortoBay group and defines itself as an urban resort – a relaxing place of well-being close to the sea promenade and old town of Funchal.
Thanks to the hotel’s central location, restaurants and attractions nearby, such as the Cable Car, Mercado dos Lavradores or Forte de São Tiago are easy to access. The atmosphere is relaxed, cosy and lively. Decoration is classical and comfortable, with natural flowers in some spots.
The hotel has 146 spacious rooms with kitchenette and balconies facing the garden or the sea, where guests can enjoy sunrise and watch ships entering the port. Commodities, such as tea/coffee, bath robes, DVD players and air conditioning, are also included. The hotel terrace has a Jacuzzi, where guests can relax while enjoying the panoramic views over the sea and the picturesque historical centre of Funchal – it is also a great spot to watch the Atlantic Festival’s fireworks. Outdoor pool area allows for direct access to sea promenade, “two steps” away from the ocean. At the SPA, guests can find an indoor pool, Jacuzzi, sauna and rooms for relaxation or aesthetic treatments.
Restaurante Arsenal offers thematic dinners and an outstanding breakfast buffet. There are fresh fruits, pastéis de nata, apple pastries, eggs, natural juices, yoghurt, multiple kinds of bread, cereals, cold meats, cakes, coffee, tea and sparkling wine. Near the pool, the Bar Promenade served ice-creams and light meals throughout the day. The lounge has direct access to the promenade and is open to local customers. At Captain’s Bar, there is a happy hour at sunset. The entertainment programme includes live music (every night). Many events are taking place throughout the year, such as thematic dinners, flowers’ week, barbecues by the pool or wine tastings.
