Footpath Areeiro – Pico Ruivo
This famous hike starts at Areeiro Peak at an altitude of 1818m (5964ft) connecting to Pico Ruivo Peak which is the highest in Madeira at 1862m (6109ft).
On cloudly days or with passing fog it feels like walking in the clouds due to the cloud formation at these altitudes. Enjoy great views over Curral das Freiras (Also known as the Nun’s Valley) and Ribeira da Fajã da Nogueira. After a quick snack break at the Ruivo’s shelter house the hike continues down to Achada do Teixeira.
A Walk on the hot Southwest coast
Starting at an altitude of 450m, we descend the cliff on the old trail footpath to sea level. Before climming back up, we will spend some time at the natural pebbled beach and perhaps even swim in the crystal clear waters.
The views over the majestic cliffs, are incredible, always accompanied with the sound of the crushing waves down below.
The waterfalls hike
This hike takes place in Rabaçal. One of the most exuberant and attractive places on the island with views over Ribeira da Janela Valley.
We will be using alternative and recommended hiking trails or footpaths to show you the best waterfalls. A must if you enjoy beautiful scenery and waterfalls. Included are the Lajeado, Lagoa do Vento (lagoon), Risco and the 25 fountains waterfalls as well as some of the best native fauna and flora of Madeira.
Although we always do our best to avoid busy places, some sections of certain hiking trails here can sometimes be busy, specially the 25 fountains.
“The Unknown”
We begin this adventure in the mystical and magical forest of Fanal, known for frequent fog covering its centenary trees, such as the “Til” (Ocotea Foetens commonly known as stink or fetid Laurel), one the lauraceas native to Madeira.
A great hike through the luxurious Laurissilva forest.

This hiking trail is located on the ridge of Ponta Delgada, on the northern part of the Island, right in the heart of Laurissilva forest.
This hike is circular, going up the hilly terrain and water streams that run along the coast of Ribeira da Camisa, through a narrow and uphill footpath in order to reach the Poço das Pulgas waterfall.
This hike begins in the beautiful village of Porto da Cruz, located on northeast side of the island of Madeira. The trail is called “Larano” footpath and it follows an old coastline trail, which for most part is around 350m (1148ft) high from sea level, offering breathtaking landscapes, abrupt and dramatic cliffs.
Along the way, on a clear day it’s possible to view Porto Santo Island in the background at roughly 50Km (31mi) away. We end this hike with an enchanting view over Ponta de São Lourenço and the fishing village of Caniçal.
Meet the Waterfalls of the north!
It is in the majestic Chão da Ribeira’s plateau, Seixal on the north west of the island that this hike takes place. The Feitas trail crosses a large and well preserved part of Laurissilva forest.
It follows a circular path, begining on the left side of Ribeira do Seixal, going uphill to the “levada” (waterway) of Seixal, where we can observe many waterfalls really up close, just before the descent through a rough and steep footpath called Lombo Barbinhas.
