Since midnight, 25 arrivals and 29 departures have already been cancelled, for a total of 54 flights.

At least 54 flights have already been cancelled this Sunday at Madeira International Airport – Cristiano Ronaldo due to strong winds, which registered the second-strongest gust in the Region.

According to information provided by ANA – Aeroportos de Portugal, since midnight, 25 arrivals and 29 departures have already been cancelled, for a total of 54 flights.

Today, only two planes landed. Flight TP 3831, operated by TAP and coming from Lisbon, at 11:13 am and BA 520, from British Airways, which came from London (Heathrow) at 1:19 pm.

In addition to the cancelled flights, another one ended up diverting. This was the case of the Transavia aircraft (TO 7690), coming from Paris (Orly), which was supposed to land at 10:45 am. Besides these, there are many others that, at this time, kept open the possibility of travelling to Madeira.

The meteorological station of Santa Catarina, where Madeira airport is located, registered the second-strongest gust in the Region since midnight (87 km/h), in the early morning.  

This morning, the wind blew up to 70 km/h (11:10 am), well above the airport’s operational limits, with the average wind in the previous hour being 41.8 km/h, therefore above what is regularly expected.
