Routebeschrijving Kom mee met onze Eastside Wonders tour en ga mee op een expeditie van een hele dag door de berglandschappen van Madeira. Van hoge pieken zoals de Pico Areeiro tot traditionele bergdorpjes en adembenemende uitzichten over de oceaan. Terwijl we je van hoogte naar hoogte brengen, over off-roadpaden, zie je een variatie aan landschappen door de ramen van onze 4×4 jeep. Bereid je voor om weggeblazen te worden door de schoonheid van ons paradijs in het midden en oosten van het eiland.
We beginnen onze excursie met een bezoek aan de belvedère Pico dos Barcelos (panoramisch uitzicht over de baai en de stad Funchal). Daarna gaan we naar Eira do Serrado, waar het uitkijkpunt op 1094 meter hoogte een adembenemend uitzicht biedt over de parochie Curral das Freiras. Daarna dalen we af naar het kleine dorpje dat onderaan de vallei ligt. Hier kun je de parochiekerk bezoeken en in de plaatselijke restaurants kun je enkele van de lekkernijen proeven die gemaakt zijn met de typische producten van de regio: zure kers en kastanje.
We vertrekken in de richting van Câmara de Lobos, bekend als het meest pittoreske vissersdorpje van ons eiland, met een stop. Vervolgens gaan we naar het uitkijkpunt van Cabo Girão (589 m), onlangs geclassificeerd als natuurmonument. Daarna vervolgen we onze reis naar Ribeira Brava. Hier kunnen we de kleine markt en de “promenade” bezoeken. We vervolgen onze weg langs de zuidkust, passeren de stad Ponta de Sol en klimmen vervolgens omhoog naar het plateau van Paúl da Serra (1400 m).
We steken het plateau over richting Porto Moniz, in het uiterste noordwesten van het eiland, waar de beroemde natuurlijke zwembaden liggen. Stop voor de lunch (optioneel). Daarna keren we terug langs de noordkust, via Seixal, waar we stoppen om de “Véu da Noiva” waterval te bekijken. We rijden verder naar São Vicente, een groene gemeente. Op de terugweg naar de zuidkust doorkruisen we gebieden met inheems bos totdat we het uitkijkpunt (Miradouro) da Boca da Encumeada bereiken, met prachtig uitzicht over de valleien van de noord- en zuidkust van het eiland. Terugkeer naar Funchal.
