Paredes Footpath – The Vertical Kilometer

This hike begins at the Achada do Piquinho – São Vicente, climbing the hill towards to Bica da Cana – Paúl da Serra.

The main characteristics of this hike includes the climb that varies between 550m and 1550m in altitude, and the traversing small sections of the trail. This trail offers amazing views, giving the hikers a glimpse above the São Vicente Valley only seen by those who complete the hike.

At the end of the hike a typical Madeiran lunch is served including the famous regional “espetada” (beef skewer) or grilled tuna with tasty potatoes and a hearty green salad as side dishes.

Hiking, nature, and food! Excellent hiking adventure.

We did three hikes and three unique local dining experiences with Madeira Wonder Hikes. Pico Arieero to Pico Ruivo, a coastal hike along Vereda Do Larano, and an off the beaten path walk through Vereda Do Fanal. These adventures made our trip to the island memorable. Marcio and Jorge were professional, fun, and took excellent care of us, with no detail left undone. They set a pleasant hiking pace, and provided a great combination of natural and cultural history. The extra personal touches along the way were sweet and set them apart from the big bus tours. We even sang songs on the drive down the mountain. A big thumbs up for Madeira Wonder Hikes.
