The mayor of Santana, Dinarte Fernandes, is very apprehensive about the advancing flames in Pico Ruivo.

There are currently two active fronts, one towards Pico Canário and another that is causing even more concern, as it threatens to go to Achada do Teixeira and also in the direction of the Hydroelectric plant, in Fajã da Nogueira.

Dinarte Fernandes mentioned that the helicopter of the Regional Civil Protection Service has already been on the ground doing reconnaissance and also said that there are elements of the Santana Volunteer Firefighters and the Forest Police at the scene, who are trying to prevent the spread of the fire.

However, the mayor acknowledges that it may be necessary to request reinforcements given the advance of the flames.

In addition to the mayor of Santana, the commander of the Santana Volunteer Firefighters and the president of the Institute of Forests and Nature Conservation (IFCN) are also at Pico Ruivo.

Access to Pico Ruivo and Pico do Areeiro remains closed on this holiday.
