Two Foreign Nationals Reported Missing in Madeira in Separate Cases
Case 1: German Woman Missing in Caniço, PJ Investigates
Today, November 5, it was reported that a German woman is missing in the Caniço area.
Details: The woman is 48 years old and works for a travel agency on the island.
Disappearance: Friends and colleagues have been unable to contact her since Sunday, November 2, after she failed to appear for work.
Investigation: Friends are appealing for help to find her. The case is now being investigated by the Polícia Judiciária (PJ).
Case 2: Search for Missing Polish Tourist Suspended, to Resume Thursday
In a separate case, a multi-day search operation has been underway for 31-year-old Polish tourist, Igor Holewiński.
Disappearance: Mr. Holewiński, on holiday with his girlfriend, was last heard from on the morning of Sunday, November 2, when he told family he was going for a solo hike towards Pico Ruivo.
Search Operation: The Public Security Police (PSP) Mountain Search and Rescue Brigade conducted extensive searches on Monday (Nov 3) and Tuesday (Nov 4). The operation focused on the Levada dos Tornos, the location of his last known mobile phone signal.
Current Status: On November 5, the PSP announced the suspension of searches on established trails, stating they had “exhausted all necessary steps” in that specific area. Authorities are now re-evaluating the situation to search cliffs and off-trail areas, with plans to resume the operation on Thursday, November 6, using drones and specialized descent teams.
Mr. Holewiński is described as 1.95m (6’5″) tall, with blond hair, and wears glasses.
