Private Rescue Team to Arrive in Madeira to Search for Missing Polish Tourist

A private rescue team, hired by friends of the Polish tourist Igor Holewiński, who disappeared in Madeira last Sunday morning, is expected to arrive in the Region this Friday to continue the search.

The tourist’s sister, Olga Holewiński, confirmed that “probably the first people will start arriving tomorrow and the rest possibly on Saturday.”

Friends are not giving up on finding Igor Holewiński and have started a fundraiser to bring in a “specialized” rescue team.

Although the Public Security Police (PSP) Search and Rescue Team is already engaged in the search, along with elements from the Regional Civil Protection Service, the National Republican Guard (GNR), the Forest Police, and the Institute of Forests and Nature Conservation (IFCN), his friends state that “the work is extremely difficult due to the mountainous terrain and bad weather conditions,” believing more specialized resources are necessary.

They also want to hire an additional drone team to help find the 31-year-old tourist, saying they are “desperate” not knowing what happened to their friend.

At this time, they have already raised 55,883 zł, which is equivalent to approximately 13,146 euros.
