Igor Holewiński, a 31-year-old tourist who was reported missing in Madeira a week ago, was found deceased today.

The private rescue team, hired by the family, arrived on the island on Friday and began their search yesterday, ultimately locating the body this afternoon.

Mr. Holewiński was last heard from last Sunday when he told his family he was planning a hike to Pico Ruivo. He did not return from the hike. The last signal from his mobile phone was tracked to an area near the Levada dos Tornos tunnel.

This is Madeira Island is deeply saddened by this tragic news and extends its heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Igor Holewiński during this incredibly difficult time.
