All classified hiking trails in the Autonomous Region of Madeira will be closed this Monday due to the issued weather warnings.
According to a statement from the Institute of Forest and Nature Conservation (IFCN), “as long as the alerts remain in place, the classified hiking trails will remain closed for safety reasons.”
“Everyone is advised to follow the guidelines issued by the Civil Protection authorities and not to engage in risky behavior,” warns the IFCN.
The south coast and mountainous areas of Madeira Island are under an orange warning for precipitation this Monday, between 6:00 AM and 6:00 PM.
Fines for those who do not follow the rules start at €2000.
