Another six tourists were caught yesterday by a patrol of the IFCN’s Forest Police Corps trespassing a metal barrier (as seen in the photo) and walking on a closed trail. Fines for this infraction start at €1500.
Besides the obvious danger, the officers identified these six tourists who “walked the closed section of the Classified Trail PR1 – Vereda do Areeiro,” which is the route that connects Pico do Areeiro and Pico Ruivo.
“The tourists did not respect the closure signage and went through the existing gate, with four of them being intercepted in the Pico Ruivo area and two in the Pico do Areeiro area,” states a note from the Regional Secretariat of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Environment, which oversees the Forest Police.
“The infraction proceedings will now follow their due course,” it further informs, continuing with the Institute of Forests and Nature Conservation reiterating the “importance of complying with the existing signage.
