Madeira won tonight the award for the best island destination in the World, at the World Travel Awards, an event that is taking place at the Savoy Palace.

Reacting to the achievement, Miguel Albuquerque says that this is an award that distinguishes a collective effort, of tourism professionals, of the sector’s agents.

“What we have to do is to increasingly improve the quality of the destination, the service we provide, and always be careful to maintain the quality of the ecosystem, maintain sustainability and continue to harmonize tourism with the experiences of our population”, he considered in statements to journalists.

The president of the Regional Government recalls that tourism “is something good for collective living, it brings wealth and cosmopolitanism, but, simultaneously, we have to always find a balance and an equilibrium between what we offer and what we provide to the population”.
