The Portuguese government confirmed this afternoon that all flights, commercial or private, with origin or destination of Brazil or the United Kingdom will remain suspended until March 1.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs states that air traffic flight ban will remain until March 1, due to the epidemiological situation caused by COVID-19.

The only exceptions to the flight ban are those of a humanitarian nature, for the repatriation of nationals, the European Union and countries associated with the Schengen Area, and their family members, as well as nationals of third countries with legal residence in national territory.

However, these citizens must present proof of laboratory testing (PCR) for COVID-19, with a negative result, performed within 72 hours prior to the time of boarding, except children under the age of two, and must comply with 14 days of prophylactic isolation and wait for the connecting flight to the respective countries in a proper location inside the airport.

Repatriation flights for foreign nationals who are in mainland Portugal are also allowed under the flight ban.

Passengers from countries that have an incidence rate equal to or greater than 500 cases per 100,000 inhabitants must, in addition to the test, also comply with a period of prophylactic isolation of 14 days, except when the stay in national territory does not exceed 48 hours.

According to the latest data from the Directorate-General for Health, in Portugal, 15,034 people died from 781,223 confirmed cases of infection
