It is a summer fruit produced in great quantity in the parishes of Caniço and São Gonçalo. The fruit is marketed in the municipal markets or through street vendors. They are sold to half a dozen or so. The bark is removed with the aid of gloves. It has been used, punctually, in the manufacture of poncha: traditional Madeiran drink.
