The Funchal Harbor Master’s Office today extended the strong wind warning for the Madeira coastline for the second consecutive day, until 6:00 PM on Monday.

Based on forecasts from the Portuguese Institute for the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA), this regional authority indicated that the wind will remain north/northeast “fresh to very fresh, sometimes strong until late morning.”

Visibility at sea will continue to be “good to moderate” and the waves will be around three meters high, decreasing to two meters or, in the case of the southern part, 1.5 meters.

Given the persistence of this weather situation, the harbor master’s office reiterates its recommendations to the entire maritime community and the population, including reinforcing moorings and closely monitoring docked and anchored vessels.

It also advises against walks by the sea or in areas exposed to sea agitation and the practice of recreational fishing, especially near cliffs and high areas, frequently hit by breaking waves.

The island of Madeira is the only area of the country today under an orange warning from IPMA for hot weather, until 6:00 PM on Monday. On the island of Porto Santo, a yellow warning is in effect.

The yellow warning, the least severe on a scale of three, is issued by IPMA whenever there is a risk situation for certain activities dependent on the weather situation, while the orange warning (the second level) is issued when there is a moderate to high risk weather situation.

For today, the forecasts are for periods of very cloudy skies, with little cloudiness on the southwest side of the island of Madeira.
