Between the 18th and 20th of October, heavy and persistent rain is expected to occur in the Madeira archipelago, especially in mountainous areas and on the 20th, informed the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA).

According to information from the IPMA, this situation “will also be accompanied by a temporarily strong southwest wind with gusts between 70 and 90 km / h, and may exceed 100 km / h in the highlands on the night of 19 to 20 October”.
These meteorological conditions are due “to the persistence of depression systems in the Atlantic region in the west / northwest of the Iberian Peninsula and to which frontal waves are associated”. The sea turmoil will also gradually increase from the end of the 18th.

Entre os dias 18 e 20 de outubro prevê-se a ocorrência de chuva forte e persistente no arquipélago da Madeira, em especial nas zonas montanhosas e no dia 20, informou Instituto Português do mar e Atmosfera (IPMA).

Segundo informação do IPMA, esta situação será “igualmente acompanhada por vento de sudoeste temporariamente forte e com rajadas entre 70 e 90 km/h, podendo ultrapassar 100 km/h nas terras altas na noite de 19 para 20 de outubro”.
Estas condições meteorológicas devem-se “à persistência de sistemas depressionários na região do Atlântico a oeste/noroeste da Península Ibérica e aos quais estão associadas ondulações frontais”. A agitação marítima irá também aumentar gradualmente a partir do final dia 18.
