Beginning about 200 meters above Rabaçal´s shelter, the access path to the Lagoa da Água do Vento also designated as Lagoa do Vento, appears to your left, near the path connecting to the regional road (ER105).Along the path, the Erica arborea, the Erica scoparia ssp maderensis and the whortleberry (Vaccinium padifolium) species are predominant.
However, as it is a transitional area between the heath and the Laurel Forest, classified as Natural World Heritage by UNESCO since December 1999, you may find other species such as the laurel (Laurus novocanariensis), the holly (Ilex perado), the lily-of-the-valley tree (Clethra arborea), the pau-branco (Picconia excelsa) and the Heberdenia (Heberdenia excelsa).
After a 1600 meters walk, you shall arrive near the meeting point of two paths, the one on the left leading you to the Lagoa do Vento and the right side path to the Levada do Alecrim. Following the left path, you shall walk 300 meters until you reach the majestic Lagoa do Vento. The existence of several water streams, derived from small branches of the main creeks of the area, demands the walker to be the extremely careful during its crossing. The Lagoa do Vento is a river basin formed by the water which fall from the top of the cliff, coming from the Ribeira do Lajeado and moving towards the waterfall (or cascade) of Risco. Enjoy this magical and inspiring place, where the silence is only interrupted by the sound of the water, to recharge your energy to return.
From the Lagoa do Vento, you may follow the opposite direction until the point of departure or, alternatively, you may access the regional road (ER105) through the PR 6.2 Levada do Alecrim levada walk.
