The Aliens and Borders Service (SEF) starts today the notification for scheduling the collection of biometric data for the new resident card of British citizens registered in the Azores and Madeira, under the Withdrawal Agreement.
During this pilot project, these citizens residing in the autonomous regions will be served from the 21st of February at the following locations:
- Madeira: SEF Service Desk at the Citizen’s Shop in Funchal.
In addition to providing data for the new card, they will also be able to update it.
British citizens already registered on the Brexit Portal will be notified by the SEF through the email addresses entered in the Portal, in the chronological order of submission of the documentation.
Britons residing in mainland Portugal already registered on the Portal will be contacted later by the SEF after the official start of this phase, without needing to contact the Service.
The certificate with the QR code, which can be downloaded from the Portal, remains an official document of residence in Portugal under the Withdrawal Agreement and is valid until the new card is issued. Current European Union residence documents also continue to be accepted for travel purposes, as long as they are valid, until the new residence card is issued.
