An earthquake measuring 5.0 on the Richter scale was recorded in the early hours of this Wednesday, at 4:32 am in the Madeira archipelago.

The quake lasted a few seconds and was felt by Madeirans throughout the Region, reminiscent of the phenomenon that occurred nearly two years ago.

According to the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA), the earthquake’s epicentre occurred at sea about 50 kilometres south of Funchal, reaching a magnitude 5.2 on the Richter scale, identical to that recorded on March 7, 2020. .
