Madeira is currently under orange warning due to the forecast of rain and thunderstorm from late afternoon, according to the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA).
The south coast and the mountainous region of the Madeira archipelago are currently under orange warning due to the forecast of heavy rain and thunderstorm starting in the late afternoon.
On the south coast, IPMA warns of the possibility of periods of rain, sometimes heavy, persistent and accompanied by thunder, between 18:00 and 06:00 on Monday.
According to the IPMA notice, periods of rain are also expected in the mountainous region of Madeira, sometimes heavy, persistent and accompanied by thunderstorms between 18:00 and 03:00.
The orange warning is the second most severe on a scale of four weather warnings and represents a moderate to high risk weather situation.
For Porto Santo a yellow alert was issued due to the same weather conditions, between 21:00 and 06:00 on Monday and Madeira Island is also under yellow warning in different zones, which means that the weather situation represents risk for certain activities.
On the north coast, in addition to precipitation, the IPMA warns of maritime agitation, with waves that can reach four meters in height, as on the south coast, where, in addition to maritime agitation, a strong wind is predicted, with gusts of up to 75 kilometers per hour .
In the mountainous regions of Madeira, the strong wind from the southwest can generate gusts that can reach 95 kilometers per hour at various times of the day.
