The Captaincy of Funchal today issued a warning of wind and strong seas for the coastline of Madeira, recommending that the vessels remain in the harbors of shelter.

“It is recommended that the owners or shipowners of the vessels take the necessary precautions so that they remain in the harbors of shelter”, reads the information released by the regional maritime authority.

The notice is in effect until 06:00 on Saturday and is based on forecasts from the Instituto Português do Mar e da Atmosfera (IPMA).

In the document it is indicated that the wind will increase to “very fresh to strong from the afternoon” today and the visibility at sea will be “good to moderate”.

As for the swell, the waves can be from the northwest between three and five meters on the north coast of the island of Madeira, being from west/southwest up to 3.5 meters in the south.
