Funchal bay will have 13 cruise ships, the ‘Lobo Marinho’ ferry and countless small pleasure boats that traditionally set sail to see the end-of-the-year fireworks to greet the year new.

APRAM expects to receive 13 cruise ships, one more than what was planned until a week ago, since the ‘AIDAsol’ was included, which initially planned to spend the last night of the year 2021 in the Port of Lisbon. Once the festivities and subsequent fireworks in the Portuguese capital were canceled (a decision taken by the local authority only on 15 December), the German company quickly found an alternative so as not to defraud its customers on board.

Thus, in a message on APRAM’s Facebook page, the Chairman of the Board of Directors, Paula Cabaço announced: “The big surprise is the 13 reservations scheduled for the end of the year, a number identical to that registered in 2019.

Attendance is confirmed. of the following ships: ‘Sea Cloud Spirit’, ‘Marella Explorer’, ‘Borealis’, ‘Bolette’, ‘AIDAmar’, ‘Vasco da Gama’, ‘Amadea’, ‘Amera’, ‘AIDAnova’, ‘Mein Schiff 3’ , ‘Queen Elizabeth’, ‘Mein Schiff Herz’ and ‘AIDA Sol’. These are numbers that feed our hope in better times!”

If confirmed, it will surely equal the record set in 2019, in a year in which we were still far from imagining what was to come. At the time, the expected 13 ships (possibly 14, as we mentioned in the December 30th edition), could bring more than 36,000 tourists and crew to see the show, but many of them would come ashore to immerse themselves in the party and in the preparations for that night that always leaves good feelings for a better year.
