You have to go back to 1972 to find records of such low temperatures in Madeira in March.

This month, the last time such low temperatures were recorded was on March 11, 1972, when the temperature dropped to 7.7 degrees, revealed to JM Victor Prior, delegate in Madeira of the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere ( IPMA).

Since then, there is only a record of a lower value, referring to February 14, 1981, of 7.4 degrees.

According to Victor Prior, the minimum temperature recorded in Funchal this Monday was 9.8 degrees and in Porto Santo 7 degrees. The only place where the temperature was above 10 degrees was in Porto Moniz, namely 11.4 degrees.

However, as already reported, the dawn had negative temperatures in the high areas, namely -3.2 in Pico do Areeiro and -1.9 in Bica da Cana and Chão do Areeiro.

The wind registered in Madeira also reached above average values ​​this Monday. According to Victor Prior, the maximum gust was recorded in Caniçal (161km/h), with gusts of 128km/h in São Jorge, 102km/h in Porto Santo, 95km/h at Madeira Airport and 55km/h in Funchal. .

As for precipitation levels, this morning there was no place where it had not rained, with the highest values ​​recorded in the mountainous regions ranging between 20 and 40 millimeters, and in Funchal 15.2.

Victor Prior also adds that there is a forecast of snowfall until the end of the day, with an improvement in weather conditions expected as of tomorrow.
