The Forestry and Nature Conservation Institute (IFCN) of Madeira closed today six walking routes in the mountainous regions of the island due to adverse weather conditions, with the occurrence of very strong winds.

According to an IFCN statement, the Ilha footpath, the Pico Ruivo footpath, the Caldeirão Verde Levada, the Rei Levada and the route between Pico das Pedras and Queimadas, all in the municipality of Santana, are temporarily located. closed.

The IFCN states that the strong wind has already caused the felling of trees at various points on these routes.

The south coast and the mountainous regions of the island of Madeira were under yellow warning for strong winds until 18:00 today, indicates the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA), with the gusts reaching 80 kilometers/ hour in the extreme east and west, and 95 kilometers/hour in the highlands.

In the Funchal region, the forecast points to a generally fine sky and light wind, temporarily moderate from the south quadrant during the afternoon.

A small increase in the maximum temperature is also planned, which could reach 26 degrees centigrade.
