Night falls and the last day of the year gives way to the longest of nights. The brilliant climax of another December month on the Island, navigating at the speed of a cruise ship. The mouth-watering odours of honey cake, biscuits, tropical fruit and liqueurs hang in the air. From the incredible Funchal bay, the privileged view gives all signs of a festival that doesn’t want to end.
