Several tourists continue to disregard the signs and insist on entering the levadas that are closed in Ponta do Sol.
The police are on their way to fine the offenders. Fine can reach €5000
Despite the pedestrian routes being closed due to the fire that has been ravaging the Region since Wednesday, several foreigners have been seen ‘jumping’ the fence to enter the Levada dos Moinhos and the Levada Nova, which has already forced the Municipality of Ponta do Sol to deploy personnel to the site to prevent these acts of disobedience.
The coordinator of the Municipal Civil Protection Service, Cláudia Dias Ferreira, asks for common sense on this issue, which is hindering the work of the firefighters.
Currently, there are two active fronts in the municipality, one in Bica da Cana and another in Lombada, in the place of Quinta.
The one in Bica da Cana is circumscribed. However, the one that is causing the most concern is the Lombada front, which went down to the Ponta do Sol river and has already reached the Madres of Levada Nova and Levada dos Moinhos.
