1. Miradouro da Nazaré

It is at 2.5 km of distance from the Hotel Porto Mare resort, west of the city centre. The views are superb, and allow you to see the whole bay, from the sea to the mountains. It is especially beautiful at sunrise and with some luck you can spot the cruise ships docking in the harbour.

2. Miradouro do Pico dos Barcelos

At about 350 meters of altitude this is one of the most emblematic viewpoints of Funchal. It is highly sought after to take pictures (especially on occasions such as weddings and christenings) thanks to its 360º views and exotic orange flowers. It is about 4 km from The Cliff Bay hotel.

3. Miradouro da Quinta Vigia

Today, Quinta Vigia is the official residence of the President of the Regional Government but it was once the residence of distinguished royal European personalities, such as Queen Adelaide of England or Empress Dona Amelia of Brazil. This manor house is surrounded by beautiful gardens (which can be visited for 1 €) and in which is located the Miradouro de Dona Guiomar (Dona Guiomar Viewpoint), named after a noble Madeiran businesswoman, who lived there in the 18th century and used this lookout as a checkpoint to observe the coming and going of ships. The views over the sea and the harbour of Funchal are very beautiful, worthy of kings and queens. ..

4. Miradouro do Pináculo

This gazebo seems to have been custom made to the place where it is located. Situated at a height of 283 meters, the viewpoint structure is covered by a magnificent pink bougainvillaea – the perfect frame for the city of Funchal. A photograph of this place is often found in postcards and travel books. It’s perfect, romantic and special – definitely a must-see stop !!

5. Miradouro das Neves

On New Year’s Eve, Miradouro das Neves is one of the best places to see the fireworks! It offers views across the city which extend through the Bay of Funchal and all the way to the Desertas Islands. It is located on the old airport road and was once “love at first sight” for all the travellers that arrived in Funchal.
