Dozens of passengers from the UK are being held aboard the British Airways aircraft that landed on Monday morning at Madeira airport, due to restrictions applied because of the new Covid-19 flu in that British country.

At issue is the British Aiways flight from London, Heathrow, which arrived at 11:25 am. From Gatwick the TuiFly aircraft arrived, which landed at 11:35 am to carry out a flight for the repatriation of British citizens who were on holiday in Madeira.
A joint operation between the PSP and the SEF is taking place at the site, with a view to ensuring compliance with the health standards enacted by the Portuguese State.

SEF inspectors are on board the aircraft to inform the crew of the Portuguese State’s determination, given the indignation of English passengers who claim that they have not been informed of such a decision by the respective agencies and tour operators.

It is known that about half of the passengers on the BA plane are national citizens who return to Madeira and that, as a result, they will have a ‘green light’ from the authorities to be able to disembark.

The confusion is also installed in the Departures area of ​​Madeira Airport where dozens of other passengers await the completion of operations, with a view to boarding the two flights where the SEF action is taking place.

A contingent from the PSP was mobilized for the site to maintain order among English tourists who intend to return home after a holiday in Madeira.

The restriction, effective from 00:00 on Monday, was enacted following the epidemiological evolution in the United Kingdom, where a more contagious variant of the new coronavirus that causes the covid-19 disease has been identified.

The countries of the European Union (EU) will meet today, at the highest political level, to coordinate responses to the new variant of SARS-CoV-2 discovered in the United Kingdom, at an emergency meeting called by the German Presidency of the Council.

In the last 24 hours, the United Kingdom has registered 35,000 new infections, almost double that of a week ago, while the death toll has risen by 236 to a total of 67,401 since the beginning of the covid-19 pandemic.

Dezenas de passageiros provenientes do Reino Unido estão retidos a bordo da aeronave da British Airways que aterrou na manhã desta segunda-feira no aeroporto da Madeira, devido às restrições aplicadas por causa da nova estripe da Covid-19 naquele país britânico.

Em causa está o voo da British Aiways, proveniente de Londres, Heathrow, que chegou às 11h25. De Gatwick chegou o aparelho da TuiFly, que aterrou às 11h35 para efectuar um voo de repatriamento de cidadão britânicos que estiveram de férias na Madeira.
No local está a decorrer uma operação conjunta entre a PSP e o SEF, tendo em vista garantir o cumprimento das normas sanitárias decretadas pelo Estado Português.

Os inspectores do SEF encontram-se a bordo dos aparelhos a informar a tripulação da determinação do Estado Português, perante a indignação dos passageiros ingleses que alegam não terem sido informados de tal decisão pelas respectivas agências e operadores turísticos.

Sabe-se que cerca de metade dos passageiros do avião da BA são cidadãos nacionais que regressam à Madeira e que, em virtude disso, terão ‘luz verde’ das autoridades para poderem desembarcar.

A confusão está instalada também na zona das Partidas do Aeroporto da Madeira onde outras dezenas de passageiros aguardam o desenlace das operações, tendo em vista o embarque nos dois voos onde está a decorrer a acção do SEF.

Para o local foi mobilizado um contingente da PSP para manter a ordem entre os turistas ingleses que pretendem regressar a casa após uma estadia de férias na Madeira.

A restrição, com efeito a partir das 00:00 de segunda-feira, foi decretada na sequência da evolução epidemiológica no Reino Unido, onde foi identificada uma variante mais contagiosa do novo coronavírus que provoca a doença covid-19.

Os países da União Europeia (UE) vão reunir-se hoje, ao mais alto nível político, para coordenar respostas à nova variante do SARS-CoV-2 descoberta no Reino Unido, numa reunião de emergência convocada pela presidência alemã do Conselho.

Nas últimas 24 horas, o Reino Unido registou 35 mil novas infeções, quase o dobro de há uma semana, enquanto que o número de mortos subiu em 236, para um total de 67.401 desde o início da pandemia covid-19.
