It is an old trail, which offers some danger to those who travel it, but it is worth the effort for the superb views it offers over the São Vicente valley, Fajã da Areia and part of the coast of the North Coast of Madeira.

The route that is not recommended is known as ‘Lapas Negras’ due to the hollows carved into the rock, similar to caves – also known as limpets and was covered by the group of hikers ‘Madeira Lés a Lés’. It starts at the Cardais de Baixo site, in São Vicente, and allows you to reach other paths, such as Lombada das Vacas, in Ponta Delgada.
