The Funchal City Council plans to raise around 12 to 13 million euros per year.

Pedro Calado mentioned today that tourists disembarking in Funchal from cruise ships will also pay a municipal tourist tax, which will be applied by the APRAM – Administration of the Ports of the Autonomous Region of Madeira, after signing a protocol with the municipality.

According to the mayor, who spoke to reporters after the weekly council meeting, “the municipal tourist tax to be applied by Funchal, of two euros per night, for a maximum of seven nights, including what will be paid by cruise ship tourists, should be around 12/13 million euros (with 2.5% returned to hotel units), for about six/seven million overnight stays.”
